Annandale house tour

Volunteers from the London Road Neighbourhood Association will once again be welcoming visitors to the Annandale historic home on 13th Street and 4th Avenue South, decorated for the holidays. Tours run on December 3rd and 4th from 6:00 to 8:30 pm.

Tickets are $5 at the door or can be purchased in advance from Knitting Time (in Centre Village Mall). All proceeds go to the London Road Neighbourhood Association. Donations will also be accepted for the Food Bank.

2011 Bright Lights Festival

The London Road Neighbourhood Association is helping out again this year at the Bright Lights Festival at Galt Gardens. Volunteers will be serving free hot beverages and selling hamburgers and hot dogs. We will also be collecting cash donations on behalf of the Lethbridge Shelter and Resource Centre. Red Cross Building for sale

The City of Lethbridge is making the former Red Cross office building in London Road Neighbourhood available to the marketplace for sale. The asking price $360,000, and the City is accepting proposals which must be received by the City before 4:00 p.m. on June 9, 2011.

A Building Condition Assessment has been completed and is available on the City of Lethbridge website. The property is located in the London Road Neighbourhood and is also subject to the requirements of the London Road Neighbourhood Area Redevelopment Plan, which is also available on the City of Lethbridge website.

The City intends to review all proposals within a four‐week period and reserves the right to reject any or all proposals. If no bids are received within the proposal timeframe, the City will continue to accept proposals until a suitable proposal is received.

London Road Gateway

A collection of affordable homes and commercial buildings are being proposed for development near the southwest, northwest and northeast corners of 13 Street and 6 Avenue South. For more information, and to comment on these proposed developments, please contact Robert McKay, Senior Community Planner, at robert.mckay@lethbridge.ca. Public comments will be accepted until June 17.

Pitch-In 2011

On April 25th, the London Road Neighbourhood Association once again participated in Pitch-In Canada’s annual Operation Clean Sweep. Several volunteers collected over twenty bags of stray garbage from alleys and parks in most of our neighbourhood. Thank you to everyone who helped out.

The Lethbridge Herald recently ran an article on the neighbourhood:

London Road Neighbourhood Association is in the spotlight after being named one of 12 Best Old House Neighbourhoods in Canada — a project of This Old House Magazine.

Sharon Hudemka, London Road’s president, said the recognition validates what residents already know and love about their neighbourhood, but just what impact the notoriety will have on the city remains to be seen.

“I don’t know how they ever found us — how out of the millions of places out there they figured out Lethbridge, Alberta existed,” Hudemka said.
